Dear Reader,

The next couple of months will be a bit busier for the team at Cyber Protection Magazine. The US is approaching a national mid-term election and a lot is riding on the cybersecurity industry. Cyber attacks continue to increase worldwide but according to Statista, the number of people being affected by the attacks is cratering. According to Norton Security, only one in five attacks are successful. That means efforts to raise awareness, like our own, are having an affect.

In the past two months we’ve provided insights from industry leaders to raise that awareness, added to our popular Scam Bucket and Cheat Sheet series and we have started coverage on the state of cyber insurance and election security

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Declaring October the Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a tradition which dates back to 2004. And of course, at Cyber Protection Magazine we honor this tradition, especially because raising cybersecurity awareness is a 24/7 job for us and one of our main goals.

This month, we've spoken with a lot of experts from around the industry. And when we say a lot, we mean a lot: there are four articles with commentaries from cybersecurity experts, plus an longer piece about the evolving role of CISOs over the past decades.

Video: Modernizing SOCs
What was intended as a short video byte turned into a longer - and interesting - podcast about modern SOCs. Enjoy our latest video with RIchard Orange from Exabeam.

Over the summer and well into October there seemed to be almost weekly news stories about cryptocurrency theft, which hasn’t helped the price of popular cryptocurrencies. We will be looking at ongoing work in the sector and whether it is, in fact, secure.

War, crime boost cryptocurrency regulation
An illegal war and a growing criminal use are driving efforts to regulate the unregulated cryptocurrency market.

The business of quantum computing and cryptography

We also ramped up our coverage of quantum computing but we are just getting started. One area we are interested in is the business model. The Alphabet spinoff, SandboxAQ, is buying a lot of QC companies but not announcing a lot of products. That seems - interesting… and apparently also a trend  in private equity. Interestingly enough, Google’s acquistion of Mandiant creates several questions, as well.

Defanging the Horror of Quantum Computing
Quantum computing is often in the news, mostly about how it’s going to destroy the world as nation-states bust the hardest encryptions around so they
